The Canada Electricity Advisory Council (CEAC) has released its final report, marking a significant milestone in shaping Canada’s electricity sector’s future. This comprehensive report outlines key steps and strategies to transition to a net-zero emissions electricity sector by 2035 and expand the clean electricity grid to support a net-zero emissions economy by 2050. The report, titled Powering Canada: A blueprint for success, was officially released on May 2024, and can be read here.

The Energy Modelling Hub (EMH) is proud to have contributed to the content of this landmark report. Our involvement underscores our commitment to advancing energy modeling and policy-making in Canada. We are particularly honored by the recognition in Recommendation #17 of the report, which identifies EMH as a critical organization that should be supported and funded by the Government of Canada. This recommendation highlights the need for open and transparent data and modeling, reinforcing EMH’s role in driving forward national energy strategies.

The CEAC’s final report is a culmination of a year-long effort by a diverse group of stakeholders, including current and former electricity sector executives, Indigenous leaders, and experts like Philippe Dunsky who chaired the council. Their work has been instrumental in providing informed, strategic advice to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, ensuring that the electricity sector can meet Canada’s ambitious net-zero objectives efficiently and equitably.
