Description

ProsumArise is a flexible intelligent agent-based framework to study how energy policy affects the advent of prosumers.

The model simulates the transformation of conventional consumers into prosumers under a given energy policy for a given jurisdiction for a long-term horizon. The model is geographically scalable and can cover a jurisdiction of national, provincial or municipal level. A jurisdiction is modelled with an ensemble of typical households represented as intelligent agents. The optimization model in each agent combines strategic and operational planning to simulate the progressive transformation of a residential consumer into a prosumer through the stages of prosumer evolution. The behaviour of typical households is extrapolated to the ensemble of jurisdiction households and their overall impacts is evaluated.

Applications

Analysis of policy contribution to achieving global electrification and decarbonization goals through prosumers emergence.

Assessment of the potential of the residential market for adopting renewable energy sources and storage technologies under different investment conditions.

Identification of the most profitable operation mode for a household (i.e., conventional consumer, prosumer in on-grid or off-grid modes) in relation to its consumption habits.

Utilisateurs

Policy-maker, technology distributors, residential consumers (a decision-support tool may be distributed as an App or embedded in smart-home device)

Intrants clés

For a selected planning horizon:

Yearly: policy (electricity tariffs, subsidies and connection schemes, other incentives), CAPEX and OPEX for different technologies

Hourly: environmental conditions (solar irradiation, wind speed, ambient temperature), household load profiles

Other: technical specifications of relevant technologies

Extrants clés

Decisions for deployment of renewable and storage technologies by each household in each location and the associated annual cash flows for the entire planning horizon

Optimal power dispatch for each household in each location for each year of the entire planning horizon

Detailed maps of a jurisdiction showing the year-by-year evolution of the strategies of households in different locations (evolution of consumers into prosumers)

Quantification of various global indicators for a jurisdiction such as: Total installed non-hydro renewable capacity , Total installed battery storage capacity, Average total annual PV generation, Annual reduction of CO2 emissions from electricity generation, Load disconnected from the grid, Average reduction of the variable component of the household’s electricity bill, Policy cost of rebates for all typical households of a jurisdiction
